Deal map·№ 01·June 2026
Who owns the software that runs veterinary clinics?
Practice-management systems hold a clinic's heart — medical records, scheduling, billing. Clinics almost never switch, which is why acquirers prize these companies and why the vertical keeps consolidating. Here is the ownership map as the public record shows it.
The map
Touch any point — every acquirer and deal carries its note and its source.
The map, in words
- Vetera → Nordhealth
- German veterinary practice-management system, acquired into Nordhealth's PE-backed group.Crunchbase transaction record, June 2026
- Provet Cloud — Nordhealth
- The cloud platform Nordhealth's veterinary roll-up builds around. Crunchbase organization record, June 2026
- Intra Corp → Patterson Companies
- Veterinary practice management, acquired into Patterson's software line. Crunchbase transaction record; pattersonvet.com
- Animana — IDEXX Laboratories
- European cloud practice-management system operated by IDEXX. Crunchbase organization record (idexx-animana)
- Jonas Software — Constellation Software
- Permanent-hold operating group with a dedicated veterinary practice-management vertical; 200+ acquisitions across verticals, none sold. jonassoftware.com/about
- The independents
- Founder-held systems, deliberately unnamed. Nothing identifying an independent company appears here without its founder's written consent. House rule — consent before identity
How the buyers differ
Two kinds of buyer dominate this vertical. The scale players — Patterson, IDEXX, Covetrus, and Nordhealth's roll-up — buy to integrate: the product becomes part of a platform. The permanent holds — Constellation-family operators like Jonas — buy to keep: the company stays itself, the founder's team keeps running it, and nothing is resold. For an independent founder weighing who to even talk to, that line is the most useful one on the map.
